In our work certain ideas and themes appear frequently. In this section we outline some of these ideas and some of the  tools and methods that we use for answering different questions relating to technology support for learning:

  • Why? - To function productively in a Knowledge Society; to capture and contribute experiences and tacit knowledge

  • With what? - With Web-based tools and systems; digital portfolios; course- and knowledge management systems; tools for knowledge creation, construction, and sharing; tools for P2P (person to person) expression and collaboration; and other digital workbenches

  • Where? - Wherever there is a learning need or opportunity

  • How? - By using a model of learning that reflects the needs of a knowledge economy, one based on relevant learning tasks, supports, and processes for a learning community

  • Results?  - By using appropriate methods for research and evaluation

  • Costs? - With sensitivity to the costs of new ways of working and learning with technology
